Clinics & Services asthma_inhaler_3

In addition to GP consultations the practice offers a range of clinics and services:

Long-term management of chronic diseases - such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease and hypertension

Cervical smears - Cervical smears are offered every 3 years for women between the ages 25-49 and every 5 years between the ages of 50-64. Our nurses carry out most of our smear tests.

Child health surveillance - We like to check that children are developing normally and we send invitations to pre-school children at regular intervals. We work closely with the health visitor in offering this service.

Contraceptive services and Sexual Health - doctors and nurses provide confidential advice or treatment including: Contraception, depot injections, implanon fitting, safe sex, sterilization, teenage sexual health matters and vasectomy.

Emergency contraception - if you have had sex without using contraception or think your contraception might have failed, arrange to see the nurse or as quickly as possible. You should do so within 72 hours of unprotected sex. However, treatment in the first 24 hours is the most effective. If would be helpful if you tell the receptionist you require emergency contraception so that she can arrange an urgent appointment. Our practice nurses can also deal with this in the Minor Illness Clinic. As with every medical condition problems are dealt with in complete confidentiality.

Most pharmacies can dispense the emergency contraception pill to young women 13-19 for free and to those over 19 years of age for a fee, without a doctor's prescription. The Walk-In Centres and the Family Planning Clinic also offer this service.

syringeFlu vaccinations - anyone over 65 years of age or suffers from diabetes, asthma, heart disease, chest problems or renal failure are recommended to be vaccinated each autumn against influenza.

Mammograms - women between the ages of 47-65 years are invited to attend the local breast-screening unit every 5 years for mammography to detect any abnormalities. The screening unit should automatically call you, but there are currently delays in the service.

Minor surgery - the doctors provide minor surgery services, e.g. injection of joints; removal of cysts and moles, in-growing toenails and liquid nitrogen treatment of warts and some small blemishes. For an assessment please see your doctor. Dr Victoria Chamberlain has a specialist interest in minor surgery and carries out more difficult procedures for the CCG here in the health centre in our new minor surgery suite.

Travel advice & immunisations - please make an appointment to see the practice nurse at least 2 months in advance if possible or as soon as your travel arrangements are confirmed.

Healthy living - we offer advice for  weight reduction and how to improve your health please book with the practice nurse.

Smoking cessation -  the practice nurses offers advice and guidance to see you through the process of stopping smoking, please book an appointment with the nurse if you would like this service.
